
Minnie Alice Grundy was born Dec. 29 1911 in Sonora, (Hardin County), Kentucky to Charlie Grundy, (1874-1956) and Mary Jo (Cook) Grundy, (1874-1934). Minnie was the tenth of thirteen children of Charlie and Mary Jo. As a child, Minnie moved to Indianapolis to live with her older sister Claire (Grundy) Carico. Her parents moved from Smyma, Kentucky to Indianapolis in 1922 where they lived in Carmel, Indiana on a farm. The Grundy’s were the only blacks living there at the time. When Mary Jo became ill, Charlie and her left the farm and moved to Indianapolis to have the family help care for her. Charlie never returned to the farm after the death of Mary Jo. In 1929, Minnie married Harold Wilson and had 1 child, a daughter, Loretta Jo, (1930-2018). After divorcing Harold Wilson, Minnie married Harold Artis in 1933. From this marriage, four more daughters were added, Edna Victoria, (1934-1979), Barbara Ellen, (1936-2017), Carolyn Ann, (1943- ), Aurelia Alice, (1946- )
